Timezone (for schedule) and geographical location (for lag) can also be significant. As far as I know, they can't actually alter the way your game works (as long as you're not joining their lobby and playing in their game). Regardless, if you delete your Save Folder (including all your saved games, and your Profile.bin file) that should reset everything. (If your Badass ranks are really high, then they altered that too, but if your Badass ranks are still low, then they probably did not).
But you should be able to check that by checking your Badass ranks. The two files they can edit are your save for the character you're playing, and your Profile.bin file. It allows them to use hacks in their own games, but it also allows them to alter your save files if you join their lobby. They use a 3rd party program called the Cheat Engine. Yes, unfortunately, there are people who do that. This is the reason why I want to delete all the Borderland PreSequel data. But I am afraid now that some data are modded in backround. After a short time, I deleted this charakter and started a new char. In this lobby was a Cheater, who cheated me to Level 70 with max money and more. I bought Borderlands and started a new game.
